]]>For a great time outside this summer, it's essential to have some comfortable seating for your friends and family to feel at home. Space saving yet stylish and practical, outdoor bar stools are the perfect choice. Gone are the days of buying bar stools for indoor spaces only and it's time to change the game with outdoor bar chairs.
But where do you begin? How do you decide what features to go for? And how do you ensure that your guests will feel comfortable? Rest assured, we have you covered. Let's take a look at some of the most important things you need to watch out for;
Strength and longevity is a must when choosing outdoor stools. Whether you are hosting a barbecue or an evening party, you need an outdoor table and bar stool that will suit your space. Raw materials such as metal and wood are sure to have the strength and durability needed to withstand any amount of use. And the best part? These materials fit in seamlessly with any design scheme. For easy storage when the entertainment is over, consider a stackable design that can easily be placed in a garage, shed or other storage area.
Often overlooked, the seat height is key when choosing outdoor stools. If you have a table or bench, it's important to ensure that the stools are low enough for your guests' legs to fit comfortably underneath yet high enough for them to access the table or bench without feeling like a child. Getting the seat height right will optimise the comfort of your guests. If your outdoor seating will have multiple uses, consider stools with an adjustable height.
Consider what bar stools will suit your summer entertaining needs. Will your guests be eating food? Will the afternoon or evening be more relaxed? Once you have identified the main purpose of your outdoor stools, you can look at different functionality options. For socialising, a swivel option would be beneficial. For eating or relaxing, you'll find a backrest and armrests to be best. As a perch for guests on the move, a backless design is optimal.
Of course you want your outdoor entertainment space to look aesthetically great. With a varied range of bar stools available to choose from, you have the pick of the bunch. For an industrial theme, choose dark wood, metal and leather. For beach vibes, opt for light colours, wood and rattan. Ensure that you have your design scheme in mind when browsing as this will make the decision-making easier. And remember, you don't need to choose the same stools, you could mix and match designs to separate the areas of your garden.
Keeping these things in mind will enable you to find your perfect outdoor bar table and outdoor bar table set. Finding bar stools for Summer entertaining has never been easier so take a look at Bar Stool Home's designs and get some inspiration for your own outdoor space!

When operating a business in the hospitality industry, every detail matters and that certainly includes your bar stools. Sure, you probably have a general idea of what you are looking for, whether that be wooden, white or black bar stools, but what about the finer details such as the height, the style, the material and whether you want your stools to swivel? Worry not, we have you covered. Here are a list of styles and features to consider when selecting bar stools for hospitality businesses.
Choosing quality materials that will withstand the test of time is a must in the hospitality industry. Replacing your stools can be expensive, time consuming and stressful so longevity is a must-have feature. Consider materials such as wood and metal as these are strong and long-lasting without compromising on style. For a modern yet durable design choose industrial, wooden, rattan and hamptons bar stools.
Before choosing which stools you like best, you have to consider the purpose. Will the stool be used when eating a meal, when waiting for a table, or for guests who are gathering in the bar area? If your customers are sitting down to eat, comfort is essential. Comfortable stools will heighten their experience and increase their chances of returning to eat again. Industrial bar stools are a great choice in restaurant areas because they look great and are very comfortable. Consider a metal base with a leather, padded seat, or a wooden stool that has been ergonomically designed to complement the shape of the body.
For stools that are used at the bar and in areas where customers are likely to be on the move, swivel bar stools are a fantastic choice. Your customers will be able to chat with friends and order a drink at the bar without ever needing to leave their seat. An adjustable height is beneficial for customers who have come for a meal. Both adults and children have varying heights and eating preferences, and having the flexibility to sit as high or low to the table as they like will guarantee to make them feel at ease.
Once you have the fundamentals covered, it's time to look at the extra details. Would you like your stools to have no back, a low back or a high back? What about armrests - would you like those? Again, these answers depend on the purpose. For restaurant areas such as kitchen bar stools, a high back with no armrests would be optimal. If you need bar stools for your hospitality business you may find that choosing breakfast bar stools with a lower backrest could be better.
Now you have decided which style and features you like, it's time to get browsing. For high quality, long-lasting, modern styles, browse the collection here at Bar Stool Home.
With an array of designs and colours, you are sure to find something to suit your style.]]>Here at Bar Stool Home we offer Wooden bar stools in dozens of styles and designs. Some are sleek and smooth, finished with varnish and made to look modern, Scandinavian, or eclectic. Others are whitewashed or unfinished for a more industrial, coastal, or Hamptons style bar stool look. Even if your home is ultramodern in aesthetic, you can still find an ideal set of 4 bar stools that fits the rest of the home.
Wood is a popular choice for a reason. It's classic, fits in most designs, is flexible to work with, and makes for seating whether it's hot or cold. But wood is a natural material that requires specific care and precautions to look its best; otherwise, you'll find your wooden kitchen stools cracking, staining, or discolouring long before their warranty ends.
Here are some ways you can keep your wooden stools looking their best for years. Trust us, we're the experts when it comes to timber bar stools in Australia.
It's perfectly fine to use a little bit of water to wipe down your wood swivel bar stools every few days. But we do mean only a little. Standing water left on wood tends to seep into the grain and leave visible water marks behind. The more persistent the water, the more dramatic the water damage. If you've ever seen water damage to a home after a storm or a flood, it's the same thing on a more dramatic scale.
We recommend not leaving anything wet on your Hamptons bar stools for long periods of time. For instance, if you have a water glass that's wet on the bottom set on its surface, you'll see the notorious ring-shaped water stain in no time. You absolutely do not want to leave your bar stools outdoors either, especially if they're in constant direct sunlight or open to the rain. Rain and sunlight will quickly turn your beautiful seating into a stained, rotting mess.
Water stains are hard to remove once they've set in, but you can clear them out with some gentle care. Mix equal parts olive oil and vinegar or lemon juice; then, gently apply the mixture to the water stain, following the grain of the wood. This should pull the excess moisture out of the wood and clear away the water stain.
When wiping down your wood swivel bar stools, it's important to be gentle with the wood. Use room temperature water when wiping them down. You'll also want to use a very soft, lint-free cloth. You don't want any kind of scratchy, rough material, since that can leave behind scratches that build up over time. Also, make sure to always follow the grain of the wood. Going against the grain can leave the surface uneven, and eventually even create splinters.
About 90% of wood cleaning and care doesn't need more than a bit of water. If it's being cleaned regularly, a damp soft cloth will get the job done. If you need to take care of a spill or want the occasional thorough cleaning, avoid using wood cleaners with silicone or wax in them. These will build up in the wood over time and leave a waxy surface behind on your bar stools.

]]>Shopping for the right bar stool can often prove trickier than it seems. The diverse range of heights, features and materials are enough to give anyone a headache. But worry not, when it comes to materials, you cannot go wrong with rattan stool.
That’s right, Rattan truly has the IT factor and is fashionable, affordable and durable - three essential qualities! Continue reading to discuss the latest trends and what to look for in a rattan stool.
Let's start at the beginning and discuss Rattan as a material. Often confused with wicker and cane, Rattan is a species of plant that thrives in a tropical environment such as Africa, Asia and Australia. An easy material to work with, it can be bent and carved without stress which makes it a popular choice to create furniture.
Rattan furniture items such as bar stools are ideal for homes where the furniture is subject to daily usage. Benefits of choosing a Rattan bar stool include:
As a material, Rattan is naturally very strong, durable and water resistant. It produces a sturdy bar stool that will last the test of time. Fewer joints are needed during furniture construction than required with other materials.
A versatile material to work with, Rattan can easily be woven into various surfaces and naturally comes in a variety of shades depending on the type that is used.
In a home where you are needing to move your bar stools regularly, Rattan is the material for you. It is light in weight so is easy to move and handle.
Rattan has quickly found itself to be one of the most popular trends in the world of decor, with more and more Australians incorporating it into their homes. The fresh, natural aesthetic allows you to bring a slice of the great outdoors into your home and optimise natural light. Additionally, because natural rattan is often handcrafted, no two pieces are exactly the same and are distinctive, natural, and attractive in appearance.
Choosing neutrals such as Rattan for your bar stools is a great way to style your home. Creating a solid base with such a timeless material enables you to restyle and add contrasting pieces elsewhere. Whether your kitchen is white, black, grey or other, a Rattan bar stool is guaranteed to fit in seamlessly.
Not only will the neutral colour bring a beach vibe to your home, but Rattan is also a great way to add texture to the home in 2022. The kitchen is often a space with many flat surfaces and can be spruced up by adding the curves of a Rattan bar stool.
When it comes to choosing a rattan bar stool for your home, it is important to understand the features that you are looking for. If the stool is used for long periods, a backrest can provide great support. If not, a backless stool will usually be sufficient.
Consider what colour would match your style preference and existing decor. The warm, wooden tones of natural Rattan can provide a relaxed ambience in the home or you can choose a hybrid with white or black legs. The beautiful thing about style is that it is completely personal to you and that there is no right or wrong.
For your new Rattan bar stools, look no further than Bar Stool Home. With a diverse selection, you are to find a colour and style to fit your home.

It is easy to get carried away with style ideas when shopping around or looking for inspiration but it’s important to remember the space that you are buying for. Traditionally, bar stools were comprised of simply wood or metal and had a very basic design. Fast forward to present times and a diverse variety of materials are used to produce stools. Choose leather bar stools for a durable, long-lasting seat, Rattan as another durable, water-resistant choice, and velvet for a comfortable, stylish seat. With a choice of metal, wood or plastic legs, you can mix and match materials until you have the perfect design.
Before you begin to look for bar stools, make a list of your must-have features such as armrests, backrests, fixed or swivel style and keep these in mind when you are browsing. Modern, stylish, and accommodating, outdoor stools not only brighten up the look of your outdoor space but are also very functional. Outdoor bar stools are specifically designed to withstand the test of time and our harsh Australian weather conditions, and help create a comfortable and functional entertaining space.
If you're thinking about buying outdoor stools for your outdoor space, look no further because we've compiled a thorough guide that highlights the best tips and advice to help you choose the best outdoor bar stools!
There are a few things you should consider before choosing the right outdoor bar stools. Materials, seat height and functionality being the most important along with some other important considerations, so lets get into it.
Here at Bar Stool Home, we believe the most important factor to consider when buying outdoor bar stools is the material the stools are made of. Outdoor stools come in a wide range of materials, each varying from the other on the basis of their durability, functionality, comfort, and style.
Talking about durability, some of the best options you can go for are polypropylene plastic (PP), resin and wicker. Wood, albeit timeless and chic, is not as durable as the other materials and will require more maintenance.
When it comes to outdoor furniture, you want it to be weatherproof so that it doesn’t get damaged and remains in good condition for years to come. We believe the best materials are plastic/resin and wicker. Outdoor stools made from these materials will hold up well under Australia’s harshest weather conditions.
The bar stool seat height is one of the most important factors to consider and get right. The correct seat height will mean you and your guests are able to sit comfortably. Too low and you could find yourself having to reach up awkwardly to a bench, and too high could see your thighs trying to squeeze under the bench.
There are a few important factors to consider when choosing the right seat height including:
Head over to our guide on How To Choose The Right Height Bar Stools for some great tips and advice on how to get this right.
Always keep functionality top of mind when purchasing outdoor bar stools. You need to determine how much outdoor space you have, how many bar stools you need, and what kind of bar stools can fit into that space before making your purchase.
If your outdoor space is smaller, it may be better to go for backless bar stools that are smaller in design. But if you have plenty of space, then you will have more flexibility with larger designed bar stools and will be able to accommodate additional features such as bar stools with backrests or armrests.
TOP TIP! Try to purchase outdoor stools that are lightweight so that you can easily place them inside during the cooler months. If they are stackable bar stools, even better! Outdoor bar stool materials that are relatively easy to carry and move around are typically the plastic/resin designs.
Who would want to lounge on a bar stool that is uncomfortable? If you're looking for a bar stool for your outdoor space, you'll need one that will seat you and your guests comfortably.
If comfort is important to you, then bar stools with a backrest would be good option which allows you to lean back and relax. Backless bar stools on the other hand, don't allow this and can get uncomfortable especially when seated for long periods of time.
In terms of the seat, upholstered cushioning is the most comfortable option. However, it would not be durable enough for outdoor use and you would most likely need to remove the cushions when not in use. Many of the great quality plastic/resin bar stools are ergonomic in design and have contoured seating and backrests which make these surprisingly comfortable.
There are many styles you can go for when choosing bar stools for your outdoor space and it really comes down to your own preference. Some people like matching their outdoor style to their indoor style to maintain consistency and flow, while others prefer having a different outdoor style.
Things to consider are the materials, the colour, the design including the bar stool features such as backrests, footrests and armrests.
Whatever style you go with, when choosing outdoor stools, remember to consider both functionality and comfort, as well as the style you are looking for.
When it comes to outdoor furniture, it’s no surprise that the weather is the main factor that will impact the longevity and condition. Therefore, regular maintenance is always necessary, however, this doesn’t need to be strenuous or difficult if you select the right materials.
Wooden outdoor stools require regular maintenance. Plus, they are quite easily impacted by food and drink spills. Thus, it is harder to maintain wooden outdoor bar stools.
On the other hand, bar stools made from plastic/resin are very easy to maintain and often just need a spray down with a hose. These bar stools do not get affected by food or drink spills and can easily withstand Australia's weather conditions. Therefore, plastic/resin bar stools emerge as the victors in our search for the most easily maintainable outdoor bar stools.
We would highly recommend investing in outdoor bar stools that are durable, weatherproof, and long-lasting. If you purchase outdoor bar stools that aren't durable or weatherproof and are often on the cheaper side, they will require greater maintenance, will need replacing much sooner and will be more expensive in the long run.
Selecting the right outdoor bar stools for your outdoor space might seem daunting, but it doesn’t need to be when you have the right guidance and advice. Remember to prioritise materials and durability, seat height and functionality first as these are the most important factors to consider when purchasing your outdoor bar stools.

In this article we will explain the difference, the benefits, some style and maintenance tips and even share a couple of our best Rattan Bar Stool recommendations!
Rattan is one of the most robust natural materials used to manufacture furniture with hundreds of different species. It is naturally grown in tropical palm forest regions such as Australia, Asia, and Africa.
Rattan vines are known to grow as long as 100m but unlike Bamboo, rattan will naturally bend toward the ground as it grows. Rattan furniture is made using both the core, the outer bark, and the skin for weaving purposes.
As popularity and demand has grown for Rattan Bar Stools, it has put pressure on sustainability. To help counter this, synthetic rattan materials are also manufactured to create rattan furniture.
Rattan plant in a natural environment. Image via Fred Hoogervorst.
As mentioned previously, the rattan plant splits into a core, outer bark and a skin. Furniture made from the outer bark of the rattan plant is called 'Cane Furniture'.
This kind of furniture is more durable than solid rattan furniture as it is non-porous, meaning it is resistant to water, thus having a higher durability than solid rattan making it a great choice for outdoors.
Wicker is often confused as a type of material, but it's not. Wicker is a term used to describe any type of woven furniture. There are a number of different natural sourced materials used in wicker furniture such as; rattan, cane, reed, seagrass, bamboo, and willow.
Alternatives such as resin and vinyl are two of the more popular synthetic materials used in wicker furniture.
The sudden increase in Rattan Bar Stool popularity is not only because of rattan’s natural and attractive style, but also it's unique quality and finish where no two pieces will be identical.
Rattan Bar Stools are lightweight and can be easily moved around with little effort. They are durable, perfect for indoors around your kitchen island, or outdoors undercover when entertaining with your family and friends.
Hamptons-style homes are very popular in Australia. Our love for bringing the outdoors in, being close to the beach and making the most of natural light make the style a natural match for the Australian lifestyle.
Typical of the style is a white-washed home dressed with classic colours or neutral tones and topped off with furniture and accessories that evoke a coastal vibe. This makes our Aleena Rattan Bar Stool Collection perfect for this style available with a high-back or backless options.
There are a few things you should do to increase the lifespan of your rattan bar stools that will improve the longevity of your furniture and keep it looking new.
These include regular dusting each week, a more thorough clean each month, and checking for mold and mildew each year.
DUST WEEKLY
Once a week, use a microfiber cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a soft bristled brush attachment to dust off any debris stuck on the surface of your Rattan Bar Stool. This will avoid any excessive soil build up and longer term stains and damage.
CLEAN STAINS AS THEY HAPPEN
It’s important to clean any spills as they happen to avoid build up and stains. Avoid rubbing any solids that may be stuck on the rattan as this may rub the residue into the rattan bar stool and permanently stain it. Instead, use something with a hard dull edge (not sharp) to lift the residue away. A toothbrush can also be useful here (without the toothpaste of course!).
Once removed you can then use a damp cloth to wipe down and if needed, you can use a drop of dishwashing liquid to help remove any residue. Then simply leave to air dry.
REMOVE MOLD AND MILDEW
As the seasons and weather changes, mold and mildew may set in so it's important to spot this as early as possible and remove this from your rattan bar stool to avoid permanent damage.
Mix equal parts of water and chlorine bleach, then using protective gloves, dip a cloth into the solution, apply to the area and gently remove the mold or mildew. Avoid using too much solution and once cleaned, air dry outdoors in the sun to dry as quickly as possible.
We hope you've learned something new and now know the difference between rattan, cane, and wicker furniture.
At Bar Stool Home, it’s hard to go past the beauty and style of rattan furniture, this is definitely our favourite option.

Polyurethane Leather, otherwise known as PU Leather, has become a prevalent form of Faux Leather that is being used across the globe in multiple industries. From Fashion to Home Furnishings, PU Leather can be found in an expansive variety of products including many of the Bar Stools we sell here at Bar Stool Home. PU Leather is preferred and popular in Home Furnishings because it is fairly common and a much more cost-effective alternative to real leather.
Caring for PU Leather is essential if you want to prolong the life of your Bar Stools and maintain their quality. This can be done in various ways, such as using a non-abrasive cloth to clean your Bar Stools or keeping it away from direct sunlight, to name a few.
PU Leather is one form of Faux Leather, which is another name for synthetic or artificial leather. It is typically made from thermoplastic polymer and a backing fabric, such as cotton or shredded leather. It is preferred for use by many because it is flexible compared to other Faux Leathers, and more importantly, appears like real leather as it can get wrinkled the same way.
Another type of Faux Leather that is considered tougher, less pliable, and more durable is PVC Leather, which is commonly referred to as Vinyl. This has more layers compared to PU Leather, including a foam layer, skin layer, and a plastic-based coating as well.
Both these forms of Faux Leather appear and act differently from real leather, where PU Leather resembles real leather more closely. In general, the major difference between real and multiple types of Faux Leather is that real leather is made from animal hides (oxen, cattle, buffalo), whereas Faux Leather has a plastic base that is combined with dyes and wax, among other materials.
PU leather can sustain significant damage if your Bar Stools are not cleaned and maintained properly over the years. The image below illustrates peeling away of the first layer of PU leather, which can happen due to sunlight exposure and not being cleaned using the proper chemicals.
PU leather can also begin to fade because over time, the coating shifts as skin repeatedly comes into contact with it. If damage to PU Leather is not prevented in time, it can become permanent. In such cases, you may have to replace the leather on your Bar Stools.
To make sure your PU Leather Bar Stools do not receive permanent damage, you must clean them regularly using the right chemicals and cloth, as well as avoiding prolonged exposure to direct sunlight.
If you have pets, then you should keep away from your Leather Bar Stools as long as possible, for their claws can give permanent damage.
Fret not, as there are multiple ways that you can keep your PU Leather Bar Stools looking fresh for years to come.
An important thing to note is to always test clean a section of the leather first to make sure that the cloth and chemicals being used to clean do not damage the leather.

Bar Stools have been increasing in popularity and can be a stylish yet functional addition to your homes, particularly complementing your kitchen or dining spaces both indoors and outdoors.
While style is important and is often the first thing shoppers look for, at Bar Stool Home we believe it’s just as important to consider the functionality such as the Bar Stool seat height. This is important as you want to be seated comfortably, whether a casual catch up with family or friends, or sitting for longer periods of time entertaining or eating meals.
Getting your Bar Stool seat height wrong can mean your legs can be uncomfortably jammed under the bench and having to hunch over and put pressure on your back. Or if the Bar Stool seat is too low, the bench will seem too high and it can be difficult to do activities or eat meals.
There are a few important factors to consider before buying your new Bar Stools including; the different heights of the Bar Stool (specifically for leg clearance, bench height, or the seat’s height), whether the seat is adjustable, and other features such as how comfortable the seat is for you.
To help you choose the right height Bar Stools, we’ve detailed out some simple criteria to consider.
There are a few things to consider when determining the right height Bar Stools including; your bench height, your leg/thigh clearance, and whether the Bar Stool has a fixed height or has an adjustable height feature.
The very first measurement we recommend you take is that of your bar or counter’s height. This will eventually serve as the reference point for all upcoming measurements, such as the height of the Bar Stool, thigh clearance and seat height.
It is important to be vigilant about this measurement because each counter or bench can be significantly different in measurement. Bar Stools can be used in many spaces including tables, kitchen counters/islands or taller bars.
Leg or thigh clearance refers to the space that your lower half of the body needs to be able to sit comfortably on a bar stool. Typically, there needs to be a 20-30cm space between the seat and the bench (kitchen counter, for example) to allow adequate space for your legs/thighs.
The bar stool's seat is an essential component of both comfort and functionality, and therefore must be decided upon with careful consideration. While most common bar stool seats are fixed at a certain height, many come with an adjustable mechanism for the seat's height.
The most common seat height is approx. 60cm-68cm which best suits a kitchen counter/bench height of approx. 85-95cm. Where as taller bar stools with a seat height above 68cm, would suit taller bench heights such as a home bar.
So, depending on how comfortable or aesthetically appealing you find a bar stool, you can either go with a fixed height, if it complements the height of your bench, or with one that can be adjusted.
Knowing the right measurements is an important part of choosing the right bar stool height for your space. Getting this right the first time will avoid disappointment or the hassle of having to return or exchange your new bar stools.
To help you choose the right height bar stools, we’ve prepared a short step-by-step guide.
Take a measuring tape and measure the distance between the floor and underside of your bench. Make sure that the tape is not slanting anywhere, as this will cause errors in your measurements.
This will determine the minimum and maximum seat height of a Bar Stool and help you narrow your search for the right Bar Stool height for your space. Remember, you need to allow for a 20-30cm gap between the seat height and the underside of the bench to allow for your leg/thigh clearance.
Example:
Great! You now know what your minimum and maximum seat height should be, but keep in mind these measurements are a guide and you can adjust to suit your own preference.
Many Bar Stools come with an adjustable height feature like a gas lift or manual screw seat that adjusts the height. The benefit of this is being able to tailor the height to each person who is seated.
This is simply a personal preference considering style and functionality. If choosing an adjustable height bar stool, it’s important that you understand the minimum and maximum seat height for the Bar Stool, and make sure this meets your minimum and maximum seat height measurements.
Another important factor to consider is how many Bar Stools you need for your space. The ideal balance can be struck by allowing about 15cm between each Bar Stool, which will accommodate the right amount of people and avoid the space being too cramped or sparse.
As a rule of thumb, the easiest way to figure this out and for comfortable seating is to add 15cm to your bar stool width. This will give you the ideal space per person required and help you determine how many Bar Stools you need.
To help, we've listed the below simple steps to follow:
STEP 1: Measure the length of your bench
e.g. 240cm
STEP 2: Add 15cm to the width of your Bar Stool
e.g. 45cm (Bar Stool width) + 15cm = 60cm (space per person)
STEP 3: Divide the length of your bench by your space per person
e.g. 240/60 = 4
Great! For this example this means you would need 4x Bar Stools!
Now lets be honest, the measurements don't always line up this easy so use it as a guide. You might want a larger or smaller gap than the 15cm suggested so play with the numbers until you land on what works for you.
Well done! You now know how to choose the right height Bar Stools and also how many Bar Stools you need for your space. While style is important and is often the first thing shoppers look for, it’s just as important to consider the functionality including your seat height.
You can now start shopping knowing that you’ll be able to select the right Bar Stool that ensures you, your family and your guests can be seated comfortably.
